"I have a 1975 Bayliner with an AQ130C 4 cyl motor. I have had problems with overheating and have overhauled the water pump. This unit has the sea water strainer. Everything was working fine last Friday and the temp never went over 110 degrees at 4200 RPM while on the lake. But when I checked the oil later I saw that there has been water mixing with the oil and now I have a serious mess. I think the water entered where the pump bolts up to the block. Also , when I hooked up the muffs to run the motor, it went up to 140 and was climbing so I shut it down. Does the entire lower unit have to be submerged? It is a Penta 270. I do not like the design of the cooling system and was wondering if I can bypass the water pump with a positive displacement 12 volt electric pump. Any ideas and comments would be appreciated."

"There is an inlet on the bottom of the drive that sucks water in............. There are two, one on each side that look like fins, and one on the bottom.
That's why we suggest running the boat in a trash can or suitable container.
Try that!!!!"

best way and cheapest way to f

best way and cheapest way to fix one with air leaks is to disable the lower unit pump put a thru hull in the bottom of the boat with a cut off in line and run the pipe straight to the raw water pump and just cap off the old lower unit pump system.
