"The AQ125B is rated at 88 KW

"The AQ125B is rated at 88 KW (about 118 HP) at 5000 RPM, and the AQ125A at 84 kW (about 112 HP) at 4800 RPM. Not much difference."

"I would say that the B230 is

"I would say that the B230 is an improvement over the B21. If you are considering upgrading, I would go for an AQ131: it has the same power and engine block as the AQ125B, but it has the advantage that an automotive coolant circulating pump can be used as a replacement if the original fails."

"Thanks again,

I want to up

"Thanks again,

I want to upgrade my powerplant but I am not sure with what yet?? I want to get a reliable v-6 if not a small v-8 if that's possible. Something in the 165-200 HP range that will not destroy my 270 leg but give my boat better performance characteristics that what i am working with now!!"

"A couple of years ago, I was

"A couple of years ago, I was fed up with my Volvo AQ151C and thought it would be a good idea to rip it out and replace it with a small Merc, 3L I believe it was. So I went to Anchor Marine and spoke with the senior guy, (he's been there a long time and had sold my boat, new, to the original owner. I told him what I had in mind and I thought he'd be pleased at a possible sale. He strongly advised me NOT to proceed. He said that the Merc engine was heavier and, pound for pound, had much less power. His advice, fix the Volvo!
In my humble opinion, the only way out for we owners of old Volvo gas engines that are really crapped out, is, 1)if the boat is worth the time and money, to get rid of the whole I/O system, fill the hole, add a pod and O/B engine. Now you have an old boat with a new engine and you'll probably not get your money out of it when you sell. But, at least for some time, you'll have a reliable power plant. 2)Or, find a replacement engine the same model as the original, and rebuild to marine standards. 3)Or, failing all that, get rid of the old boat and buy another, much newer!
FWIW Tom.
And, Oh yes, flame on y'all.

"Jesse, unfortunately you are

"Jesse, unfortunately you are too far away from where I live. I have a wonderful AQ175 that would likely do the trick for you, with bellhousing and closed cooling system, exhaust manifolds, etc included. I even have the correct Y-pipe to adapt it to your current transom shield. You would just have to get an outdrive with a 1.61:1 gear ratio or replace the gears in yours (I have one outdrive with that gear ratio, but that's my spare).

Oh well...."

"El P,

Thanks for your hosp

"El P,

Thanks for your hospitality!!!! An aq175 is which block???I'm thinking 4.3L?? My father in law drives a truck cross country and if he is close to you and that motor is still available i may come up and get it. Ill have to let you know if he makes it that way sometime in the near future!!! I am not angry with my aq125, its not broke, it doesn't nickel and dime me, actually IMO, it has been completely bullet proof since day 1 with the proper maintenance along with my OD.The motor seems louder than others????As far as gears go Ill replace my lower gears with whatever set it needs!!I just want more power in my boat but I do not want to cut any corners or sacrifice reliability to get that power. I know I am asking a lot by that..... I DO NOT want a Merc 3.0 like thostorey mentioned or those Merc 470 that I have HEARD everybody rave about.... I DO NOT think they are a good design nor reliable. A 4.3L i know is a reliable block along with 5.7L(too much motor for me at least in this boat lol). Why cant Toyota make their 3.5L 268HP/280lb ft torque LIGHTWEIGHT V6 for boats. Or their 4.7 V8 as they are super reliable and very weight effective??? We all know it would prob work super well!!! Sorry to get off the subject I was daydreaming. My boat currently runs with 1 person:

33 MPH
4600 RPM
5 sec plane
14x17 prop
full tank

with 2 people:

29 MPH
4400 RPM
7 sec plane
14x17 prop
full tank

What I am looking for is a top speed in the 45-50 range(my hull will take it) triple laid off-shore super deep V design(heavy 2500lb boat 17.5') but i want 3 people in it being able to cruise in the mid to upper 30's. If none of this is possible I will run this boat for another year or two, Save up my spare change and buy a new boat. I will still keep my boat though. Thanks for the help boys much needed!!!!
FYI: This would be my ideal boat,

http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2000--Interceptor-95718209

This would be my dream boat, however, it would be nicer if it had the older model duo prop that is based like the 290. Easy bellows replacement,no engine alignment, cone clutch gears, aahhhhhh i love these drives!!!!

Thanks again for your help EL P.!!!!"

"El P,

I believe my father

"El P,

I believe my father in law runs up to the Bellingham WA. area once every couple of months. Ill have to talk with him next time i see the ol fellow...Also, now that you mentioned that Ricardo is in the general area too if he ever has a engine or anything that I could use that may be a possibility as well!!I know the F-I-L runs into Oregon too..."
