"I have just purchased a boat with an AQ125A in it. What temperature should this engine be running at. It seems to heat uo to 180 within about 3-5 minutes and then sits around 200. This seems hot to me but after downloading the owners manual it says that the thermostat starts to open at about 180 and is fully open at 197. I was told that this engine which has the raw water system coupled to the fresh water cooled carburator system was supposed to run about 140? Thinking about it more, my guess is that the guage is just for the fresh water side and running at about 200 should be ok. I am supposing that the temperature I was told (140)is for completely raw water cooled systems. Any advice would be much appreciated."

140 degrees is the operating temperature for raw water cooled systems that are run in salt water. Raw water systems run in fresh water rivers and lakes can operate at 160 degrees. This is so that salts do not settle out and build up in the engine block.

"Thanks, I understand that! I run this boat in salt water. I am surmising that the closed circuit fresh water piece of the cooling system, that which the guage is reading, is still ok at 200 degrees Farenheit. The open circuit raw water system will be maintaining a temperature closer to 140 (or well below I am guessing)."
