"i can feel exaust coming out of the tank with the strainer, i unhooked the copper line that is hooked to the manifold and that is it , but is that normal or is the manifold busted"

How old is the manifold? Sounds like it might be plugged 'caus the exhaust gas should go the other way.

well thats the thing the manifold was busted on the outside and i had it repaired thinking now that it was busted on the inside also it is a 83
