Hello new to forum and have a few questions? Looking at a 84 bayliner cuddy with a AQ125A/270 motor and drive the guys says it over heats nothing in the oil said he replaced a seal hoping that would do it in the lower unit area. My question is what should i look for when i go look at boat? and also said he tested in a drum and seems to be fine now is this a common problem with this setup? Boat looks to be in good shape for the year never had and inboard so i dont know what to look for also out boards and bad luck with the force that was on my 88 bayliner cuddy please give me advice and thanks in advance chad

See this recent thread.
All too often these items are over-looked.
Once these items are replaced, or are in good working order...., we don't normally see any over-heating issues.
There are going to be some maintenance items to take care of, no matter which used boat your purchase.
Items such as replacing the timing belt and tensioner, drive bellows, sea water pump impeller, water neck fitting, etc...., are always good to do.
These are a great engine/drive combination.... the drive itself will be pretty much bullet proof.

The hull is what you'll want to check out thoroughly re; transom core and stringers, etc.
If the engine is cantilever hung, see if you can bounce on the stern drive, causing the engine to move up/down.
See if the transom shield is pulled up tightly to the transom.
Try tightening the six mounting bolt nuts.

Perhaps have a survey performed.... often this can be the best money spent... even if it leads you to walking away from it.

An older Volvo that overheats can be a VERY costly item.
The manifold $350+ The pump $200+ The heat exchanger $300+
Get it looked at by a profesional.J
