"Took a cruise yesterday for the 2nd time out this season. Engine seemed to run fine. Had recently converted my distributor to electronic ignition. Fine tuned the timing a little bit under way, so it would not ping under acceleration with a heavy load. Everything seemed fine, temp normal- 200F, smooth running. After about a 3 hour cruise around Sqauxin Island and at the boat launch getting ready to haul out, the engine was idling smoothly for a couple of minutes then died. i didn't bother to try to start it rather loaded it on the trailer and took it home. When I tried to start it at home to flush out the salt water, it would not start and it sounded different when I cranked it over. This morning, went out to the boat removed all the plugs, looked normal. Took of the distributor cap, and cranked it over by hand on the crankshaft pulley. The rotor doesnt turn and either does the timing belt. I fear the worst, broken camshaft, and big bucks. I'll do a compression test later this week, but with out the camshaft turning, it is futile. Any ideas or is it time to rebuild or repower? Any ideas how much this will cost me?"

"Could it be something as simple as a broken timing belt (or timing belt with a few teeth gone)? If so, it will cost you about 25 bucks to fix it."

"Thanks El Pescador, I did see some rubber partial timing belt teeth in the bilge. If I squeeze real hard on the belt I can rotate the timing belt with the crankshaft pully. What a relief. The belt I can try to change myself with a little help from Seloc. Any special tricks or just follow the Seloc instructions? Thanks again for the prompt response. My anxiety level is now back to normal.
