AQ120 fuel pump

1968 Volvo Penta AQ120 engine would not start. I rebuilt the carb and it only runs on starting fluid. So I took off the bowl, and it was completely dry. I also siphoned gas through the gas line, so it is good. The fuel pump was very dirty as the boat had not been used for six years. How can I rebuild the fuel pump, as cleaning it did not get any gas into the carbs! The pumps are too expensive to just replace with new. I cleaned the screens and soaked it in carb cleaner also.

Well I found the problem. It has a leaky diaphragm, which is a piece of rubber that goes up and down and works off the camshaft, ie mechanical method. So now I need new parts on the inside! And it many years old---1968 or so. How do I rebuild this???:(

Try Sierra part# 18-7286.
For some reason, this site doesn't like direct links to it's parts lists. Go to the boat engine parts section and open the Sierra catalogue. scroll down to Volvo-Penta, fuel, and then mechanical fuel pumps. Yours is about half way down the page. Click on the part number and it'll come up with the price. Consider yourself VERY lucky to be able to get it at such a low price.
