AQ 270 drive prop

I have a 1974 23' Chris Craft Lancer with a 270 drive coupled with a Chris Craft 350ci engine. I forgot what prop goes with that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you lose the prop or did it get stolen? Without knowing what you had size and rotation it is just a educated guess at this point. Ricardo may have a good starting point.

Kim makes a good point re; which rotation the drive was set up for.
However, either hand prop will work..... but.... with the less-than-desireable 270 style trim fin/torque tab arrangement, a LH prop works best.

Please note that for a FWD gear selection (regardless of prop rotation), the shift cable must extend at the gear yoke (item #3 in the image).

As for the propeller size/pitch...... about all you can do is to try an array of propellers, making your OEM specified WOT RPM the target.

NOTE: WOT RPM is a test RPM ONLY...... and is used to determine if you are geared and/or propped correctly for the engine.

Hi fellow Lancer Owner...

Don't know what HP that engine is running or what the recommended WOT RPMs are, however, my 350HP Merc (reengine) is putting out 260HP. I changed out my drive (leg) to a 280 (better technology gears). I'm running a 15x17 prop. I had a 15x19 but it was a bit overpropped. The 280 drive takes long hub props, you take short hub props.

While Lancers are great boats, the 22 Degree deadrise is HP hungry. Given I run this boat on Barnegat Bay and environs with it's short, steep and often nasty breaking chop, it's a tradeoff I willingly make.

The 350-K engine of that era was rated @ 250HP @ 4400 RPM. If you weren't able to get to 4400RPM and all else was OK with the engine you were over propped. The 350-K I believe was the highest HP version of the 350 by Chriscraft. Other versions were rated a 240HP.

OOPS... the 350Q was the standard Lancer engine at that time and was rated 235HP @ 4200 RPM. That said, my first guess for a prop would be a 14 1/2 or 15 inch by 15 pitch. Unless bottom was fouled or engine needed tune or heavily loaded, 3800 RPM @ WOT too low. If you can find a copy of the 350 Q engine "book" that came with the boat and is often available on line it will give you the recommended RPM range @ WOT that your engine MUST be able to achieve... There is a tremendous amount of ChrisCraft info on line. The Chris Craft "Commander's Club" accepts Lancer owners as members even though the Lancer is not strictly a Commander, rather one of the Commanders was built using the Lancer hull mold. There is some Lancer relevant info on that website. Insofar as I know, there are no longer any active Lancer websites in the USA. There is however an active one in Sweden ( translations available). Suggest you find the recommended RPM range for your exact engine and use that as a spec. Furthermore in that era, Lancers came with either Ford or Chevy based engines and to further complicate matters, some of the engines were installed backwards, i.e., the power takeoff was from the nose of the engine and not the rear ( flywheel)... These "backwards" were referred to as "flywheel forward".
