"Hello,

My AQ 131 stumbles between 4 and 5k rpm's. Will try adjusting the float. Does anyone know what the adjustment should be? My manual does not contain the spec.

Thanx and have a great day,

Rob."

"What makes you think it is a fuel problem?

Have you checked the condition of your plugs, cap, rotor, wires and timing?"

"Thanx Mike,

Replaced plugs

"Thanx Mike,

Replaced plugs, new cap, rotor, wires, timing is at 6 deg BTDC, mechanical advance working properly, new fuel filter and pump, new as of last year coil and Pertronix unit. I am fairly certain it is fuel related, either a plugged pick-up line in the tank or she just needs a little more fuel in the float bowl.

This was a project boat, and as part of the restoration, I replaced alot of the maintenance parts on the engine.

Thanx and have a great day,

Rob."

"Ethanol in fuel is causing a

"Ethanol in fuel is causing a LOT of problems especially in older boats. Personally I've had problems with both my 5.7L 260HP Merc and 7.5HP Honda 4 stroke O/B. Deposits in carb bowls, plugged jets and sticky float needles. Someone on another post suggested a method for cleaning carbs using a jerry can and carb cleaner...Find that post and try it."

"Thanx Robert,

Here we are

"Thanx Robert,

Here we are not yet running ethanol, and hopefully never will. IMO that stuff is a greeny farce. The amount of energy from the ethanol is nearly same as the amount required to make it. Then there is the food for fuel stuff. I think it is best for me to leave that debate alone. Not the place to get into an ethanol debate.

My problems are with 100% petrol gas and I am relatively sure it is not getting enough of it at the higher rpm's.

Have a great day,

Rob."

"Hmmmm, do I sense another upgrade to Weber carb?

Possibly a winter project. Can't blow $700 right now, the wife would shoot me. But then again she does not need to find out.....hmm, got me thinking. If I keep this boat, it will happen, just not right now.

Anyways for now, I would like to get this one running OK and enjoy the rest of the summer. Other than the bogging problem, it runs great under 4k rpm. We rarely run at that speed anyway, but would like to get it running right. Does anyone know the float adjustment spec? I am fairly certain that is the problem, because when I rebuilt the carb, it was flooding and I may have closed it up a little too much.

Thanx and have a great day,

Rob."

"About the only thing I could

"About the only thing I could suggest is that, if you have already adjusted the float height lower, adjust it higher about 1/2 the distance you lowered it. I've never seen specs on float heights for these Solex carbs, seems to be a bit of a hit or miss deal."
