"Hello. On my 1983 bayliner ca

"Hello. On my 1983 bayliner capri I have a single solex carb. I am looking to change that to a dual set up and would like to know if this set up from a AQ 130 will bolt up to my AQ 125 A? I remember discussions about this a few years ago but I cannot find that thread. Any input would be appreciated. Another question is this. I have only got up to 2300 rpm at wot and 25 mph by my gps. I have a 15 X 17 rh prop. The boat planes out well but I don't want to hurt this old motor. I have a new pertornix ignition and fresh gas, running seafoam as a cleaner, just won't go any faster. I am at 9 degrees btdc on timing, with new belts and fresh lubricants. Any suggestions?"

"The capri is 18'8". I got it three years ago at an auction and I planned on restoring it, but a nasty bout with cancer tied me up for two years, and I am just now strong enough to go out in the boat. I really know very little about it. I am 1/2 way through the first tank of gas, seafoam added to clean the tank, new fluids and belts. I was going to add an in line fuel filter today, but thought I had better ask opinions first. Maybe just a rebuild on the present carb this winter (I'm in Michigan) will suffice. Now that I know the motor is good, I'll continue with my plans.I just want a nice little boat to get me out and back. I did see that any weeds quickly block the water intake ports and I have to watch that. Is it best to fill the gas tank prior to fogging the motor? Or just add stablilizer to what is left and fill it in the spring? Thanks for the input."

"Congratulations on beating ca

"Congratulations on beating cancer...Stay healthy, use the boat.
I believe when I had an 18 ft boat with a 120 HP Volvo that I was running a 15x15 prop. It did about 30 wide open and cruised in the mid/low 20s. It got excellent fuel economy.
When I had a bad weed (eel grass) problem I converted the water pickup to a thru hull with a strainer.
Since the advent of ethanol, I taken to draining my gas tank dry. I also use a fuel filter with a drainable water seperator. If you do this make sure its CG rated for inboard use, i.e., metal bowl."

"Robert, thank you for the imp

"Robert, thank you for the important information. I think the through hull water pickup is in my immediate future. I may ask for help on this later this winter when I do the conversion. It was incredible how fast the motor overheated and we had been running flat out for almost 45 minutes prior to hitting the weeds. The engine was always at 180 until I slowed down and went thru the weed beds. I will get a 15 x 15 prop just for trials, as the engine can handle the rpms, and I really don't care about the speed, just the motor. I shall drain the tank and install the proper filter/seperator this winter while I have the boat in the garage. I do appreciate good advice, thank you."

"Ross, The parts you'll need to convert to dual carbs are fairly easy to find. If you do decide to do it, please check my parts wanted ad on this site for a single carb intake (my engine lid won't clear my dual solexes."
