1st of the season start up. En

1st of the season start up. Engine fires up runs fast then dies. When I maually push the acclerator pump some times fule get to the carb and sometimes not. How can I diagnose this as fuel pump or accelerator pump. Do I need a carb kit?

Is this the lever under the carb. I can maually push it up no problem but no fuel to carb.

"Sorry Dave, you have a sidedraft Solex, don't you? Then, there is no fine filter on it, only the downdraft have them.

If there is no fuel reaching the carb, you will have to start at the pump and go from there. If you hook-up a jerrycan to the pump and try to start the engine, that will tell you whether or not the pump works. If the pump works, then you have either a blockage or a source of air ingress between the pump and the tank.

The isolation valve at the tank is open, isn't it? Then, if you have an anti-syphon valve installed, you may want to make sure it is not plugged."
 
Took the fuel line off and pla

Took the fuel line off and placed it in a Jerry can. Still no fuel to carb. I'll check if the fuel pump is pumping fuel.

"Maybe the float is stuck in the high position? You can either tap it <u>gently</u> with a plastic hammer ad try again, or take it apart so that you can check inside and clean the jets."
