Appears to be extra shift cable

When my outdrive is trimmed up the shift cable appears to be fine; however, when I trim it down a "drip loop" for lack of better terms develops. The plastic jacket is not in a bind and pushes freely through the bellow into the engine compartment but redevelops once you take your hand off of it. It's like the slack doesn't seld adjust. Has anyone got an idea? If I need to take a photo I can do that as well.

thanks!

possably the drive was fully extended and the boot retracted when the clamp was applied too tightly. remove the C clamp , lower the drive or extend the boot before reclamping. most of us use a nylon tie instead of the metal clamp.

I understand your suggestion and will try them when I return home this weekend. Why would the drip loop push easily into the engine compartment then immediately return once pressure is released?
