Anyone know how to display Honda 2024 50 HP engine hours on a Garmin Chartplotter?

I just want engine hour info and it seems like every avenue I try is a deadend. If it isn't possible to get engine hours to display on a chartplotter, is there a dianostic tool folks recommend? I'm just trying to see my stupid engine hours and do my own work rather than paying a million dollars for simple info.

There are a couple of ways you can do this. One way would be to get the tach that also reads engine hours from the engine. Specifically, to get the hours (and much more information) on your chartplotter you can create an on boat NMEA2000 network and link your chartplotter to the engine. The 50HP engine sends out a number of different types of data from engine speed to fuel rate to engine hours (see https://cdn.powerequipment.honda.com/marine/pdf/misc/nmea2000_pgn_list.pdf).

Your chartplotter is already set up to connect. The connector is on the back next to the power connector and is labeled "NMEA 2000". All that is required to set up the network is to buy the required cables and connect them together. There is a special cable that is needed to connect to the Honda engine.

PM me for more details (I am going through the same issue with a Humminbird). I think I have found a source for the needed cables that should run not more than $75. Good luck!

Thanks. I have the NMEA 200 network setup, and have lots of engine data displayed, but engine hours is not listed or an option for some reason, and I still can't figure how to find that one piece of info. Very frustrating.

It sounds like it is possible. I had that same Honda 50HP but not Garmin. Being new on this site I don't know if links to other sites are permissible but some folks on another site figured it out for a Yamaha engine. The Honda chart shows that the engine does transmit the total engine hours in the NMEA 2000 PGN127489 engine data stream. Search Google for "SwampDog13" and "engine hours". Basically the procedure is to go to Gauges then Numbers then ChangeNumbers then (possibly "Engine Hours") then Engine then Engine Hours. You have to select one of the defaults to replace with engine hours. I use Humminbird and sometimes on that you have to upgrade firmware to get the latest improvements. Might be the same with Garmin. The user referenced above has a 94SV (might be a Plus version?) and got it to work.
