should the antisyphon keep the

should the antisyphon keep the gas in the line from the tank to the fuel pump from running back into the tank ? I have a new fuel pump but it takes too long to get gas up to the carburetor .. ..

"Leo, what is your concept of "too long"? The carburetor's bowl should be full by the time you shut down the engine, and it would take quite a long time to empty it after you start again and keep the engine running at idle (even if the pump's performance was questionable)."

"Are you sure the problem is the pump? You can disconnect the pipe that goes to the carb from the pump and crank the engine,that will tell you if the pump is picking-up or not. It should pick-up even if the line fromt he pump to the gas tank is empty, as it is a positive displacement pump. If it does not pick-up, it may be that you either have an air leak in the suction side of the pump, or the pump is defective, or the anti-syphon valve is clogged/stuck. I assume the fuel filters are clean."
 
Just a thought.I had this prob

Just a thought.I had this problem a few time and finaly I discovered that after siting for a week or so I would have to do the same as you did.By chance I took the dist cap of and found that there was a build up of mosture inside the cap.srrayed some wd 40 and put the cap on a fired up straight away.2-3 weeks later and forgeting about the misture build up I had the same problem required pumping & pumping crank & cranking and then remembered what i did the last time .took the dist cap of and sprayed and see started up straight away.the next time i started it up was after 3 weeks and took the cap of and sprayed wd 40 and reinstalled the cap.Started up straight away after 2 pumps of the throttle.and 2 to 3 cranks.you might want to try it.
