Another Stand for Your Aquamatic Outdrive

If that works for you..... that's what is important..... excellent!

My stand supports just underneath the cavitation section, and is on wheels similar to a hand truck.

Keep in mind....... that it's much easier to R&R an AQ series drive by removing the transmission first, and by installing the transmission last!

Trust me on this...... I've been doing these for over twenty years.

My repair stand for my 280 drive is really minimalist and only takes about 20 mins to make. It takes advantage of the fact that my "workshop" is in a prefab cedar storage shed. The shed has 2x4 vertical studs as well a 2x4 rafters.
The stand consists of 2 sections of 2x4 about 3 ft long. Te rest of the parts list consists of 2 galvanized 1/4 bolts about 6 inches long as well a two nuts and two lengths of 8 ft of 3/8 nylon line. I bolt the 2x4s as a pair straddling a conveniently located wall stud with the bolt loose enough so the 2x4 will swing freely. I make sure the hole in the stud is more than 3 ft off the ground. Before bolting the 2x4s to the stud, I match them on the "4" side and drill a clearance hole for the second bolt about 2" from the "outboard end. I run the 3/8 line thru the yoke pivot holes over a handy rafter and use a riggers hitch to tension it so it stands upright on the floor. I then manuever the drive so that I can use the 2x4 that are bolted to the wall to straddle the drive just below the cav plate and run the other bolt thru the holes in the outboard end of the 2x4s, clamping the drive between them.
I then attach the second 3/8 line to the outboard bolt, run it over a handy rafter, and lift/pull until the 2x4s are horizontal. I then tie off the line from the outboard bolts to the rafter back to the bolt. The line thru the yoke holes can now be removed. While I've done this all by myself a few times, having a strong assistant is an asset. When the stand is not in use, it drops down and lives hanging down parallel to the wall stud in the wall.

Before I was aware of this forum, I wrestled my outdrive off/on solo in one piece. Next time I'll know to take your advice...Thanks.
