Another Shift Cable Question..

The cable installation procedure for the A1G2 calls for tightening the cable retainer (brass threaded end) into the bell housing with no more than TWO threads exposed:

Are they talking about maximum two threads showing on the inside (boat side) of the housing as shown by my arrow?

Why is this?.....is it because of future corrosion that may occur to the assembly?

If you do not thread it in that far it will cause shifting issues most likely shifting into reverse.

So as the assembly moves away from the housing (by not tightening it up almost all the way) the shift cable end (the grey piece) will not be moving the other linkage correctly.

Corrosion is not the issue, some I have seen are threaded all the way in................the threaded hole will become slightly worn after enough cables have been replaced and the threded end will tighten all the way. That seems to be ok at least with the older boats........But a little "thread prep" can keep that from happening....

Thanks, I guess I'm reading too much into this.......basically it needs to be tightened up all the way until the nut is tightened against the housing, right?

Needs to be threaded in far enough to ensure adequate movement to complete the shift into reverse.....
what was alluded to in Post #2.
