"ok heres what I got, 1996 Sea Ray 280 w/ twin 5.7L carb, 260hp, alpha one gen 2... The props that are on it now have worked fine until the boat ramp got in the way (not me the marina pulling the boat out did it) ok now here is the question the props on it now are 14x19 and the only props that the marina has at this time or by this weekend are 14.25x21 .. what would the performance change be by installing these. The marina told me that it would get up on plane a little faster/easier but I would loose a little top end (which would be fine) but does this sound correct to yall.."

I was always under the underst

I was always under the understanding that the smaller the pitch the more hole shot and the higher the pitch the more top end.. but I have been known to be wrong before..

Have them send your props out

Have them send your props out to be refurbished. Also have the prop shafts checked for straightness. They may have been bent.

"the marina told you wrong. Yo

"the marina told you wrong. You are correct about the pitch vs. speed concept, Bill.

The standard rotation alpha 19P alum. prop is not exactly rare...it has to be the most common i/o prop in the world- any prop shop will have 6 or 8 of those in stock. they probably have 1 or 2 counterrotation 19P's too.

Your marina probably has some 21's they want to unload.

I'd be leary of a marina that doesn't understand prop pitch basics..... the 21's could lug your motors to destruction"

That's what I figured. whi

That's what I figured. while we are talking about props what difference would changing only the diameter make say going from a 14x19 to a 15x19

"If no blades were broken off,

"If no blades were broken off, a prop shop could repair your props for about $60 ea.
Larger diameter with same pitch could give you very slight higher top speed and a little more bite/less slipage.
However, your old props could have a certain amount of "cup","rake" and if a new prop does not have the same, you may not be happy with the end result.
Best to repair what you know is working for you.
And yes, 21 pitch is way to much."

Bill - Hy stat is right the ma

Bill - Hy stat is right the marina is just trying to unload some props that they can't sell. I am not going to settle with just getting my props fixed they messed them up so they can replace them.. the reason I was asking about the 15x19 was just for knowledge. Thanks for all your help..

I agree that the marina should

I agree that the marina should replace the props.
Many models of alum props have been discontinued.
I use a 15 x 18 3 balde but they are no longer available and had to go to a 14x19 4 blade then had to have it cupped to get the same results.
Good luck
