New to the forum, new to scene. I've recently bought a 1966 33 ski twin of craigslist. I was told it was good and wouldn't be disappointed. He DID start it for me and put it in forward and reverse. Seemed to run great. Got it home, threw it on my boat and went to the water to test it out. It does run great(after some serious adjusting on the carb) but gear case keeps jumping out of gear. So bad so, i'm sure the clutch dog is bad along with the gears.
All this being said, i'm in search of a lower unit for the motor. I'm afraid this one is blown out. The bearings are noisy when spinning it by hand and it doesn't like to shift in or out of gear and jumps out when you do manage to get it in. I did fill it with oil(it was empty) before taking it out.
If anyone has a good gear case or a lead on one i would be more then glad to buy it. I also have a wonderfully running 1970 18hp sportwin for sale that i took off the boat. That motor does run/shift/ and perform perfect. It was just too small for boat. I have a video on my phone of it running on the boat before i took it off if interested. Thanks in advance for the help and thanks for reading.

Gearcase from a 1962 / 1964 model 28 will fit.------Gearcase from a 1965 / 1970 model 33 will fit.----40 hp from 1960 to 1970 will NOT fit.------Should be lots of them around for you.

Thank you, i did know the 40's wouldn't work but i did NOT know about the 28's from earlier being comparable. How ever, i am having trouble locating a good one. I find them on ebay a lot but have never bought anything off there. Seems too risky.

Too risky you say. I say you pays your money and you takes your chances. Me, if it were me, I'd open up the one you have and see what it needs. BTW, they all are noisy when spinning by hand. It needs torque applied to raise the pinion gear for correct mesh. You can only evaluate it by examination.

Are you confident enough to tackle it yourself? I will send you parts. All you may really need is a prop shaft with all the fixings. Pinion gear and bushing may be fine. I probably got more of this old junk around than Racer. Dismantle it and take pictures. Gotta reduce picture file size to post them here. Maybe 1 to 2 K. Buy a complete used one is not the best idea unless it's from someone who has taken it apart, inspected, then reassembled with new seals. The last one I set up went to Indiana. I coached the guy how to properly install it over the phone. But they probably got something like it on YouTube® now. It was a 40 hp Lark LS. If I don't use this stuff up soon, Raquel (lovely wife of 20 years) will be selling my junk at auction for scrap. Don't want that. Worked too hard to save it from scrap once already.
