Another 90hp tower of power question

I have a 1978 m900 90hp merc..i know there is a way to check for spark/start it up without the woring harness connected, but i cant remember how or fond it anywhere..can someone please refresh my memory?

Pull the plugs and jump the starter it should spark? If it has a pull starter just pull the rope. Alot easier with the plugs out!

Are you sure? I thought i had to put 12v power to certain terminals on the box to create a spark?

Post the serial # and yes the inline six with the distributor needs 12 volts applied to the switch box to get spark !!

I though it had the trigger under the flywheel my bad.

You can remove the timing belt and spin the distributor with your fingers, but all the wiring and 12 volt power is required to make a spark.
