Anode for 35852R

Hi

I can't find the part number for an anode for 35852R.

Was it not built with one? it is a 1978 model 35hp.

There is nothing on the drawing on the anti cavitation plate on this site.

There are 2 holes spaced at 60mm centres on the anti cavitation plate where one used to be but it really looks like the previous owner drilled them and fitted the anode 'aftermarket'. The anode is now not there.

Do I even need an anode if I am using for a few weeks in the summer and washing it off every day ?

If so then any suggestions on a suitable part? And also when mounting it does it have to be mounted to bare metal ? I am presuming it does.

Thanks

An anode kit is listed in the BRP parts catalogue under "Accessories ... Electrical"
Its is part number 0173029.

There is no guarantee that the holes were drilled to fit that part. The OP may have sourced a small bar anode from almost anywhere

I guess the above is a zinc anode but bear in mind that zinc is really only suitable for use in salt water.
Aluminum anodes are suitable for salt and brackish water
Magnesium anodes ae for fresh water only

However for the use you describe an anode is not necessary.

thank you for your help

I will leave it for now I think.

With all the paint I would have to remove I think I would make it worse not better.

Plus with all the paint on there I cant see how the previous one was bonded very good and so prolly did not work.

In fact there are 2 sets of holes on each side of the anti cavitation plate so I assume it had 2 once.

Cheers

Relied on the fixing screws.
