"Could anyone give me some advise on the best type of anchor, the weight required and length of chain to use on my crownline cuddy 22.5', 7.4 litre, thanks."

My MAX answer
600ft of 1/2 ny

My MAX answer
600ft of 1/2 nylon line
10 ft of 3/8th link chain
anchor rated for a 30ft boat.
Rule of thumb: 7X the expected depth

"I prefer to go with more chai

"I prefer to go with more chain rather than a larger anchor. If you buy a ready made kit, I've never seen one that comes with enough chain, double the length they give you.
When you're trying to anchor in any kind of wind or current, you need the extra weight without the surface area to get the anchor to the bottom quickly.
Bt Doctur's rode length is good advice. Most people that have trouble getting anchored and staying that way typically don't put out enough rode... wave action pulls the boat up and if the anchor is directly beneath, or too close to the boat, it pulls the anchor right out. Before they realize they are moving, they are drifting into other boats, rocks, pilings, and the like."

"Thanks to all.
The boat is 3

"Thanks to all.
The boat is 3900 lbs and will be anchored up in mostly a mix of rock, sand on the glacial lakes in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia Canada.
There seems to be quite a few different types of anchors available with widely varying design parameters, I don't have any experience with anchor systems at all so any advise is greatly appreciated."

"With being in rocks, you may

"With being in rocks, you may want to go with the kind that looks like a grapling hook. The prongs on it aren't all that rigid, so if it gets stuck in the rocks, you can, with a little heaving, get it free, then bend the prongs back into shape. Danforth anchors are great anchors in most types of bottoms, but they are rock magnets... I've lost several to the rocks in the Piscatiqua River. Once it's stuck, it's stuck for eternity. I'm not crazy about the plow type anchors. It may be a combination of factors, but I don't think they hold as well in rougher water."
