hey folks I'm new to this forum but i need some advice. I bought a wellcraft coastal with twin 175 evinrude fichts 2000 or so i thought took it to a recomended to me by friend mechanic who informed me that i have 2000 mid section and drives with a 97 powerhead on the port side and 99 powerhead on starboard he said he isnt supposed to work on them because they might be stolen oh boy well he called the sherriff dept and they told him they were ok by them so i got them appraised for now anyway he also told me the early ficht outboards were the worst that evinrude ever made and that i had some ECM problems and a ignition problem on one anyway i guess my question is can i get this hodgepodge to work or should i use them for anchors and run away fast.

Sounds like you need to get your boat check out by a professional...

this mech is a pro he tells me I need about 3,000 bucs worth of work so I guess im asking an impartial group if these motors are worth sinking that kind of money into or are they just going to break down again and again maybe i should cut my losses now and look fo 2 better motors or do what needs doing myself and maybe have about 1500 into them.
