Do you mean is it necessary to remove the old wiring? It would be a good idea to remove what is not being used any more.

the proceedure on installing the conversion alternator is to remove and secure the stator wires..disconnect the sense and positive wires to the starter solenoid terminal that goes to the battery ....

the alternator output wire goes to the starter solenoid where the regulator wire once was...with the one wire alternator don't expect much charge output at idle or less than 1200 RPM >>>....

Good point about idle charge jcat. I've seen the Alt Kits with three wire alternators wouldn't that be a better set up, especially if you troll or idle a lot?

the 3 wire alternator has more low rpm current output ..the excitation is taken from the ignition coil positive ..

the alternator is less than 100.oo Lester 12174/ sierra marine 18-5965 .. 1800rpm 52amps .. idle is 15amps ...

my low mount alternator is 12 inches above the boat hull no need to worry about getting wet, deep vee hull...
