Alternator output and prop question 30hp 2 stroke

I have a M30A2 2006. I have noticed that with lights and sounder and the odd operation of my aftermarket trim and tilt, the alternator cant keep up and the battery drains. Is it possible to fit a higher output alternator from a 4 stroke or TLDI or???

On another matter, I have owned this motor since new and it has been fitted to my current boat for almost 12 months. When I first purchased the boat I was worried that the motor would be too small, as the new boat requires a 40hp but I tried it anyway and it worked fine. The motor trimed out at 5200rpm and 22knots. Just before Xmas I ran through some surface weed and the prop begun to slip (orignal prop) so I had it rebushed. Upon trying the boat again, she now trims out at 4750rpm and 19 knots. I am sure it is the same prop as it has some unique scratches. Nothing has been changed on the boat and the motor runs as well as it always had.

I am at a loss to explaine the top speed loss. I have a Humminbird gps sounder and teleflex tacho so I am confidant of the numbers. Also I have never had the slightest indication that the prop would slip on this boat or the previous boat, WOT revs was always consistant.

Thanks
Daniel

Your alternator is what it is. Just be sure that you have excellent connections for maximum wattage chatging. Sometimes, these unregulated systems will overcharge (especially if used during the day exclusively -- no running lights). You could switch to LED bulbs, and save about 25 watts... that would probably do it.

Most likely difference would be in the carb. You could clean it and see if that makes a difference... but nearly 500 RPM is a lot. I would also go through the ignition system to verify timing and sync.
