"i was needing to know the dif

"i was needing to know the differences from auto starter and alternator,, to an marine .i would think it would be spark resistence ? but my ?? is... What do they do to make them that way .and how much difference is there?"

Its not "spark resistance&

Its not "spark resistance" but more of flame suppression. The idea is to envelop the alternator to keep it from starting an explosion should the bilge fill with fuel vapor. A simple (and cheap) mod technique is to install a fine stainless mesh inboard of the ventilation passages. The mesh inhibits flame propagation.

Electrically there's no significant difference. The marine type usually don't use an idiot light for excitation.

All those little things make a big difference when that fuel leak develops....they can make the difference between being able to boat again vs departing the world in an ugly manor.

"OKAY I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THIS

"OKAY I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THIS MITE BE AND WHERE WOULD I GET IT ,AND CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ON DOING THIS? simple (and cheap) mod technique is to install a fine stainless mesh inboard of the ventilation passages. The mesh inhibits flame propagation. P.S. I USED A MARINE ALTERNATOR ON BOTH MY 440'S.....but this eems like a great idea"
