"I have the same engine as you do. I went to my local alternator shop and bought a single wire Declo marine alternator for $120. You will need to make a few changes such as a smaller fan and I had to modify the adjustment arm. I would try your local alternator shop first, they should be readily available. It works great.

"Rocky, if you go the way Robj suggested, make sure the alternator comes with explosion-proof screens installed so that you can use it safely on your engine. If it does not have the screens, I suggest you ask an alternator shop to install them."

I would go to your local alternator shop before I bought one from Sierra. As I stated in my previous post, it did not just fit, it required a smaller fan, that my alternator shop installed for me at no cost. Yes mine is a marine alternator with the explosion proof screens. I also had to drill out the hole for the pivot bolt to a larger size because the bolt on the engine would not fit, but that was easy. Probably the most difficult task you will be faced with is the adjusting arm, I had to modify it a little to make it fit that involved welding a few pieces onto the existing bracket. I live in Vancouver, so the $120 for an alternator is probably a realistic estimate for what it would cost you to buy it in NS. Plus an alternator shop should be much cheaper than buying one from Sierra. Just make sure it is a marine alternator. If you have any questions, just ask, I will try and answer them.

"Regarding the bypass on the tilt, yes there is one. It makes it much easier to install the exhaust bellows. I learned the hard way, read one off my previous posts. There is a latch that once you activate the drive lifts up free of the tilt. Another piece of advice, install the Pertronix electronic ignition, they work great.
