"I have a 1986 mercruiser 165 4 cylinder ser.#B577972 The regulator/rectifier is smoking again. Replace with used, didn't last long. Now want to convert but power steering is in way. I'd appreciate any ideas. Very new to boats, trying to learn and love reading all the posts. Bought boat used from co-worker who let it sit for few years. Mostly fuel and carb problems till now."

"It will work, but you DO NOT connect to the stock wiring ever again. The 1 wire unit goes directly to the starter (with its own fuse) and does not pass go or collect $200. I usually rip out the amps gauge (orange) for a volts for finishing touches. "
