Alternative solution for "long" exhaust elbow when using 3" spacers ?

Realized my engine should hav the 3" spacers installed to comply with the distance to waterline. PO did not hav them.... Engine is a Mercruiser 5.7 /Alpha sterndrive. Regarding the spacers all clear, however need also to change the elbows and that is a pain. Need to use the longer kits, 14865A1 and the price is crazy..600 + usd ! Have not found any after market products. Safety first but 600 USD is pure robbery :) Any alternatives to this ? Was considering would a approved marine soft wall exhaust hose work in this application maybe ? Any good ideas highly appreciated thanks.

straight out the transom is one option...

you won't find any exhaust hose that will make an angle that close to the engine and survive...

Straight out transom does not solve ( or change) the requirement. I went thru transom and had the same restrictions.

There are 15*-30* aluminum exhaust piecee available. You can have the rubber off the elbow to the angled aluminum and the rubber to final location

I have two in my basement but do not have any part numbers to share. I will look but if none I will not post, if they have part numbers I will post them.

Also look here

There are several different parts, The aluminum angle piece and several rubber hoses

Other than these show and suggested Not sure what else to choose from BUT the cost is a lot less for all of the above

Thank for all the comments so far. Came to the same conclusion, the house idea will not work, the angel will also change due to the spacers, will not bend...Strange enough not many second hand parts on the market either, such would be fine. Kghost, will study this one, thanks!

See attached.... the point of this spec is to have the point at which exhaust water is dumped out the exhaust to be 13 inches above the waterline so it runs downhill out of the hull. The "expensive" MERC extensions isolates the exhaust stream and the spent cooling water from each other until they are sent to the elbow, which performs the critical task of dumping spent coolant safely into the exhaust stream so it won't end up back in the cylinders. A simple elbow won't perform this function. To make sure you really have an issue, see the attached.

Thanks for the manual sandkicker! The boat is a 2556 Bayliner, and its possible it was sold at some stage without the 3 inch spacer, but later those were added. Probably a border line case, heavy loaded the 13 inches might be compromised. Planning to add a relative heavy kicker motor so might be a good idea to use the spacer, just in case. I have all the original mercruiser manifolds and raisers, the "elbow" discussed her is only the part that directs the mix of water and exhausts to the Y pipe / sterndrive in an correct angel.

....and it is that part that has to be at the 13" height, not a downstream extension. Bite the bullet and buy the OEM extensions.

If you PM me your email address, I'll send you a copy of the MERC OEM ENGINE shop manual which shows extension installation options.

Yes, You are right, will go with oem extension, beter not take any chances, pretty vital part for safety. Thanks mate, will do!
