Alt Wiring

So i replaced my old 35amp alt (sev marchal) With a new marine delco 3 wire alt. Was easy enough but now the problem.
There is a purple wire that says Resistor on it and i don't know what to do with it.
It has about 6ish volts or so when the key is on and 0v with the key off so i assume it is from the resistor on the coil. Can i just dead head this wire or do i need to hook it up someplace?

After doing ALOT of research it looks like the purple wire is a sensor wire to the regulator and can remain unused.
Wondering though why if it was hooked to the alt for voltage sensing why it is only 6ish volts. Should it not be 12v to let the regulator know how much to put out?
