Alpha One Gen II Sterndrive - Standard Rotation

First time installing my sterndrive (Standard Rotation) and can use some help. When in neutral the prop spins freely in the counter and clockwise position (No Problems). However, when I shift the drive into forward the prop locks when I turn it in the counter clockwise position as expected but when I spin it clockwise the prop turns but not without making what sounds like a catching sound. Same scenario in reverse. Also, the throttle control feels a bit harder when going from neutral to forward and reverse. Could it be that the shifter is not properly engaged? Thanks in advance for any help!

the prop locking CCW in Fwd and ratcheting CW is normal, the opposite is true for Rev
If you just pushed the drive on almost all the way (1/8 inch) and DID NOT DRAW IT ON WITH THE NUTS then suspect a bad control or shift cable

Bt Doctur, Just to be clear the "racheting sound" when turning the prop clockwise when in forward is normal? and when the throttle control is in reverse the racheting sound counterclockwise is normal? Just want to make sure that racheting sound is normal. For some reason I thought when in forward or reverse the prop would spin freely when spinning it in the appropriate direction. Thanks for your earlier response.

Perfectly normal due to the design on the clutch dogs and the way the gears are cut.Let me grab a pic for you, What you see is fwd gear and the clutch dog. Look at the angle of the cut . In one direction it is locked in the other direction it will ride up and over the dog, That the ratcheting sound you hear.
