Boat goes into salt water slip in fall for 6- 8 weeks only. Has stainless prop. keep a floating battery charger plugged in to dock power. outdrive getting eaten up. BAD. installing mercathode kit now. If the problem was caused by shore power How will I keep battery up now that there will be a constant drain? Can I keep my charger on? will mercathode be enough to protect it? Appreciate your thoughts.
 
Check w/adjoining boaters to see if they are having the same problem due to stray elec. current in water from the dock power supply. Verify good engine/OD ground connections...clean metal to metal.
 
Good batteries just do go dead. Boats dont nornally leak that much to require chargers unles this GEN II is on a wood boat.
You dont neeed a charger on 24-7 ,something is wrong and needs attention.
