I drained it in my garage so I could change the impeller.If you leave it dry, the bearings will rust. Air even inside drive contains moisture.
Why did you drain it? Was there water in it?
Next time, Dont drain it, just split the two sections and plug the upper oil hole to minimize oil loss, reassemble and add new vear oil and normal to vent plug level.
Same hereI drained it because I change the gear oil every season.
