"Can anyone tell me whether the outdrive mounts on a gen 2 and gen 1 are the same? Was thinking of buying a boat that has probably a better outdrive unit than mine and swapping the units, however it is a 94 and mine is an 86. What I am curious of is the whether the gimbal ring mounts to the transom with the same cutout, or whether I would have to modify the transom? Any help may keep me from doing something stupid! Thanks!

If you remove All of the Alpha 1,+ wish to install All of the Alpha 1, Gen.II,....

"Jack:

If you drill two more holes in the transom, mix a small quantity of marine epoxy and coat the large hole openings to stop future moisture intrusion. You can always drill out or sand off the excess if the hole has too much epoxy.

Whenever I drill holes in the transom to install items such as a transducer, I drill the screw and wire holes a size larger and inject a mixture of fine powdery sawdust and epoxy in the screw holes and coat the large ones.

The next day, for the screw I use a drill bit smaller than the screw and drill a pilot hole for it. I also add a bandaide of marine polyurethane sealant. For the wire hole I just smooth the opening and seal it with polyu."

"Thanks for the advise Guy, This might all come into play if I pick up that other boat for parts and that outdrive is in good shape!"
