Alpha 1 shifting into reverse questions

I put my boat in the water on Sunday and took it for the shakedown cruise. She ran pretty good. As I said before this is my first boat with an out drive. When I shift from neutral to reverse the out drive is slow to go into reverse and I can hear the clutch dog chatter before it goes into reverse. I have to move the shift lever back a few inches much farther than I do to shift from neutral forward. Is there a separate adjustment for forward and reverse? If I adjust the reverse will it also effect the forward adjustment? The forward engagement works fine. Where do I make the adjustment at? Is it back by the engine? Do it up by the shifter/throttle? Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,.... The only adjustments are at the shift plate, by the motor,...

Odds are, yer lower shift cable is Worn Out, 'n needs replacin',...
The outer jacket wears a groove into itself, 'n it now has too much travel...

2X what Bondo said, especially if it has overheated...

The other item is shifting technique...move the lever with authority -> no *****footing around...your drive will last much longer.
