Alpha 1 exhaust

I have a 4.3L with an alpha 1

I have a 4.3L with an alpha 1 stern drive. I keep the boat on a lift. I noticed that when I lift the boat part way out of the water that it looks like water and exhaust is coming out of the holes on each side of the mounting bracket ( gimble housing?) at the back of the boat. Is this normal or an indication of a leaking exhaust bellow. Thanks

Some water will drain out of the exhaust holes at the bottom of the O/D mounting bracket. Exhaust also exits out the prop hub. Are you running it out of the water? How would you see exhaust coming out? Take a flashlight and look at the condition of the bellows for cracks and dry rot. If they are damaged and allow water in, then it could fill your bilge and swamp your boat. Are they more than five years old? Getting close to the time for a new bellows and water hose kit.

"I raise the boat just high enough so that the prop and water intake are underwater. There is exhaust coming out of the prop but it looks like it might be coming out of the holes on the mounting bracket. Everything was changed out last year ( gimble bearing, u-joint, seals and bellows. If those are exhaust holes then you answered my question. Thanks!"

Those are normal exhaust and water outlet holes. Don't worry.
When the exhaust and water arrive at the transom assembly down the Y pipe, there are two small channels that lead directly to the two outlet holes you have noticed. The balance exits out the prop. You may have noticed when the boat is idling in the water there is little if any exhaust out the prop. At idle, it all exits out the two small transom holes.
