Alarm Won't shut off

I had an alarm that went off due to my impeller going out. I switched out the impeller and the water is flowing out the pee hole just fine. Now I can not get the alarm to shut off I checked my oil and have plenty of oil in the reservoir. The thing is that the alarm comes on when I turn the key without starting the motor. I tried to follow the wires from the oil reservoir to see if I can some how disconnect them but I can not get my hands to where they are. I am lost here and I am wondering what to do next??????

Thanks,

Devin

Disconnect the overheat switch by separating the bullet connectors to see if it stops. It is connected in series/parallel w/the oil tank switch...disconnect it next.

Yeah, it sounds like (after years of sitting still, not doing anything) the temp sensor might have frozen-up in the 'on' state, when it was called on to act during your overheating event.

Just measure the contacts on the sensor with an ohmmeter. If the motor is cold, the sensor should be.. open-circuit aka infinite resistance. If it's a low resistance, and the motor isn't overheated, then the sensor is defective.

You might be able to clean & restore it to operation once it's removed, but just make dang sure it still responds correctly to an overheating condition. Might be best to replace outright, in either case.

And honestly, temp warning alarms are a very good thing, but they aren't a real substitute for a cylinder head temp gauge. No reason not to have +both+ on your motor..

Belt & braces, as they say across the pond.
