alarm on a 1998 merc optimax 225 hp DFI

I have a 1998 merc optimax 225 DFI .Started it up yesteday running great pumping water, sounds nice ,then the alarm started going off.It beeps 4 times every 2 minutes.Is there some kind of code that tells how many beeps mean what ? Like I said ,the motor is running great ,nice and smooth no skips no rough idling .any help would be appreciated thank you

That is either "low oil" or "water in the fuel" as detected by the guardian system.

I have full tanks of oil and I put a bottle of STA-BIL and 10 gallons of fresh gas in it yesterday when I first started it .after about 15 minutes thats when the alarm started beeping should I put some dry gas in it or will the STA-BIL take care of that

I would try some fresh gas (even on a portable tank) to see if that clears the alarm. If you don't have a water separating filter (in line), that is something you might want to consider.

The stabil will keep the gas from phase separating before hand, but if you already got water in the tank it will do next to nothing about fixing it up.

I assume you don't have a "smart gauge" - it would have lit up either the oil or the (water in fuel) light to let you know what the alarm was trying to tell you.

If fresh gas still leaves you with an alarm it could be a faulty oil level sensor (fairly common) - can troubleshoot that if the gas don't fix it...
