"My old air conditioning (MarineAir) drove us nuts last summer so I took it out and had it checked. Nothing really wrong with it, just very noisy due to age (1994).
I have decided to replace it and am looking for suggestions regarding noise and reliability.
The dealer suggested a Cruisair 16kBTU reverse-cycle model SXR or SXH.
Question is is it as quiet as the dealer said it would be? Anyone here able to recommend it?
It sits under the V-Berth, so sound is important, I NEED my beautisleep."

"Look up ocean breeze. They blow away cruise air prices and are comp in quality. They will build you what ever you want. Ours was custom built split system and has been in service for 6yrs. They use panasoinc rotary compressor or if you want they will use copeland scroll which is the very best, cost a little more though."

"You can not compare a 15 year old unit with a new one. In 1994 everything was piston compressor. Nearly everything is rotary compressor now. Much smoother operation, less current draw and much quieter. Marine Air is the industry leader, CruisAir is their sister company. Both are good products. You will pay a little more for one of these units but they have much better control systems, a much better service network and you can expect to get another 15 + years out of your next one."
