After year model for mariner 30hp

Is there a chance you have mixed up the prefix numbers. I can find no record of 698 series, however, if it's actually 689 L 401412, your outboard is a 1979 model year.
 
Thanks Bilge Rat Jim. Yes I did have the numbers around the wrong way. So your right it's 689. Now I know the year model I should be able to find parts a bi easier.
