Hi all new to this, trying to find info on AE30 motor. Best i can work out is that it is around 1983.
Was looking for a service/workshop manual but all i can find is 1984 and later. Any help would be appreciated.

Yam did not start selling outboard motors in the US until 1984. Some 1984 models, however, might have had a manufacture date of some time in 1983. What is the prefix of your motors serial number? That is, what are the first three characters of the primary identification number, aka serial number, of your motor. There is a method to the madness of getting to the data that you may need.

Hi boscoe,
The first three digits are 689. I did not relise that i had joined an American forum but i suppose that it will be the same for the Australian motors.

And I did not realize that you were in Australia. Not sure when Yam started making outboard motors either. Anyway here is a link to a US website that shows a 1984 Yam 30ESN. It is more than likely the equivalent of your motor. For some strange reason Yam will make a number of identical motors but then identify them differently depending upon what part of the world they are sent to. If you will note, the vast majority of the part numbers begin with a 689 prefix. 689 being the prefix for a Yam two stroke 30 HP outboard motor circa 1983, 1984 etc. If nothing else you can use the parts catalog to help reinstall stuff that has been removed. Most of this stuff may still be available from Yamaha. You can also go to Yam US' website and see if they still offer a service manual for a model 30ESN/30ELN. If so, you can get it from them or from Yam Oz. The exact year should not matter much given that the design of a 30ESN did not change much over the years. Good luck. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1984/30ESN/parts.html
