Advice / Help - 1983 25hp mercury

Hi, so I recently let my cousin borrow my 16' boat with a 25hp mercury- 1st mistake.

The gas tank was 1/2 full. He told me he filled it with gas for me prior to using it. After asking how much oil he mixed he told me he didn't know it needed oil..... he said he used it for about an hour..

I'm just looking for advice on what I should do to check if there's any damage and any advice on how to proceed. Should I drain all the fuel or just add the oil to the tank ? It took a bit but it did fire up for me.

Remove bypass covers and inspect pistons / rings.----Post results of a compression test here.-----It amazes me that people are more interested in computers / fancy phones / electronic gadgets and know next to nothing about simple machinery.

I agree , unfortunately I've basically raised myself and had nobody to show me any of the things I've learned myself over the years. I have no problem figuring things out on my own with a little guidance !

I refer to your cousin.----But over 50 years ago when I worked at a dealer I learned.-----Not uncommon for folks to come in on a Monday with ---" I loaned out my motor to a friend , this is how it came back "------Do not loan out your motor !
