Advice for removing powerhead on 88 Evinrude 60hp

"I think I have unbolted what I need to (6 long bolts from under the cowling, the one nut from the rear center stud, and the two front rubber mounts). Have I missed any? Oh, the lower unit is off and everything else except the flywheel.

The powerhead seems pretty firmly rooted to the adapter even after tapping at the top sideways with wood and a hammer.

Any tips on getting the powerhead freed up?"

"Well, I got the powerhead off

"Well, I got the powerhead off, and have a tip of my own to tell ya.

I tried putting one of the long bolts back in partly, and hammered on it hoping it would crack the seal in the forward corner - didn't work as I didn't want to whack too hard for fear of damaging threads.

I came up with a quicky homebuilt jack screw that I put under the rearward central stud that protruded down in a little cavity. The 1st picture shows the stud area which is below the bottom jug.

The threaded rod is brass, and I cut it too length to just fit under the stud with the nut flush to the bottom of the rod, and rested the nut on a large washer to protect the aluminium floor. A set of flats at the top would have made it easier to hold while turning the nut, but it still worked holding with a large set of needle nose pliers. Using a 9/16" nut did not provide much room for an open end wrench and it would be better probably using a smaller rod and nut size.

It popped it free quietly with no fuss, and it was easy to wobble the powerhead around a bit to free up the rest of the gasket. Lifted it off and it's in the basement (caution - it's not light, so if you have a hernia ready to pop, get some help
