advice for cooling service

Hello, I am doing some maintaince on a 1969 1 1/2hp evinrude and would appreciate advice. The motor has been stored several years and with a little work is now running, but appears to be overheating. I plan to replace the waterpump impeller but in looking at the parts diagram on this site, I see a watertube grommet at the powerhead. Are these prone to leaking with age? I'll be ordering some parts and will order the grommet and powerhead gasket if needed.
