Will moving the low speed indent tab 1 or 2 notches in advance to increase and smooth idle speed be ok?? I dont have the optical timing tool. My outboard runs fine except at idle it never realy sounds right and other day it died at idle aswell. Its a 90hp 1995 60deg looper. I do not know if timing has previously been messed with as i got this motor second hand. The low and high speed indent tabs are both all the way to negative ends which makes me unsure if its factory setting. The following work has been done to the motor:
Compression test all even around 120psi
Spark gap test ok on all 4.
New leads and plugs. All Gapped
All carbs cleaned idle screws 6 turns out.
Link snd sync done.
New fuel lines, filter, quick start valve. Fresh fuel.

Some dealers do have the timing device & a manual will come in handy, but you can adjust the idle timing. That is why it is adjustable. I would not be surprised for the low speed adjustment to be somewhere near the middle of the range. That's where you see most of them? Has this motor got a blue pack on it by any chance? That is a CDI unit & may vary, but a few clicks to adjust idle speed won't hurt. I would not adjust top end timing without using a timing light. Just shoot thru the little cap on the cover. Straight down. The strobe light can confuse the OIS ignition system. See what it is showing on the encoder wheel. I do not have that spec in front of me, but will get it.
