"okay here is this situation. Sorry for the terms but i do not know all the technical terms for the parts i am about to talk about.
Background: 40hp Mariner built by Yamaha. My guess is early to mid 80's. I'm new to working on motors but id rather not spend the money to have someone else do it if i can do it myself.
Situation: i hit a stump and the motor came flying up and broke the handle that the tiller handle mounts to. i aquired the part that needed fixin and i discovered that i had to remove the whole powerhead to replace it. The part is in place and the powerhead is back on but know when i start it, it is running at about half to 3/4 throttle. i was extra careful when i took everything apart and thought i put everything back together right but i guess wasnt careful enough. I was wondering how to go about adjusting the throttle. Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks"

"Hi there,

Is the throttle

"Hi there,

Is the throttle cable actuating the link all the way? In simpler terms, is there any movement still left on the carb linkage when the tiller is WOT (wide open throttle)?

Have you removed the throttle cable and tried to open by hand? Don't rev the motor over 3k if not on the water in gear. Also, this could be tricky with a tiller configuration when boating.

Let me know if you come unstuck.

Regards!

Benjamin."

"After i got to lookin at it f

"After i got to lookin at it for a while i felt stupid even asking the question, cause it was so easy to fix. When i put the throttle back together i set it to high, all i had to do was unscrew and adjust. Thanks for the help anyway. And by the way the motor is running better than ever now. It idles great and it doesnt sputter anymore when i take off."
