adjusting shift cable on a 1979 mercruiser drive

I have a 1979 grady white i just picked up. It has the 470 engine with a new se106 outdrive. The shift assist bracket is mounted on the transom. How do u properly adjust the shift cable? Is it the same as all alpha's?
