can anyone out there help me-it does not seem to be a cable adjustment-there are screws on the carbs-do they need control the idle?

"William, there are two adjustments on the carbs that will affect the idle.

One will change the idle speed the second will change the air/fuel mixture.

Your's being a twin carb set-up will also have linkages between the carbs.

Your best bet is to pick up a maintenace/repair manual for your motor. Setting the carbs is not very complicated, but you shouldn't go near any motor with a screwdriver without having something to refer to.

It is alot easier for someone on the board here to help you out with a step that you are having trouble with - near impossible to give you a complete step by step as to how to set/sync a multi-carb setup..."

"The setup is easy.
1: Vertical Tie bar set. (All shutters closed)
go to 1 1/4 turns At 140 degrees w/ the stat in there)
2: Pop the horizontal tie bar off. Set the roller between the marks at 0 lash. Hold the screw and turn the nut. 11/32 pee wee wrench (PITA) Reconnect the tie bar.
3. Set the helm throttle at with the cable connected at WOT. Adjust the cable first if needed. Check the WOT correction. The throttle plates are dead level 90 degrees at full throttle. Adjust the tie bar.
4. Remove the spark plugs, and ground out the leads. Check the max advance at cranking speed. 28 degrees. min is not adjustable.
5. Start up the engine till it is warmed up. Set the idle speed to about 1200 with the cowl off, than put back on and put the motor in gear lashed to the dock. It should fall back to 750 RPM. readjust and close the hood again to check.

Final notes : There is no plastic air box on most Force motors. (Except the 85 HP.) It is tuned off the cowl. All seals should be in place. Also check the exhaust boot down in the bucket for gas leaks that will choke out the motor. Don't try to trim the carb mix needles to much right now. Do that after the sea trial if the hot restart gives you any trouble. Don't move the roller adjustment again once everything is set. It will not be on the markes anymore. Where ever it lands is fine.

U.S Marine motors: The throttle cable anchor does have a compression spring inside it instead of setting 2 turn preload like every other motor. Make sure that spring works.

Merc Motors: Check the fuel pump diaphram for leaks. "
