Adjusting an Alpha1 short shift cable in the water

Hi All

Wondering if it’s possible to adj. the short shift cable with the boat in the water.

Pulling this boat out without a trailer is difficult and expensive.

So if the the short cable is disconnected at the plate and I manually shift it into fwd with the engine idling and maintain pressure on it while an assistant kills the motor will the drive stay locked in fwd so I can adjust the short cable?

i know it sounds crazy!

Will it work?

Thanks

Yes it will stay in fwd as long as you keep pressure on the cable end.

Then what are you going to do and why are you doing this?

The short cable adjustment is a ONE time adjustment. after that is done correctly then you adjust the stud in the slot that the short cable mounts to....

Hi Jack

I posted approx a week back about a work boat that had an issue with the rpms raising before gear engagement.

You generously supplied me with info on how to adjust the cables starting with setting the short cable to a dimension of 6 inches between the barrel center snd the cable end hole with the drive held in fwd gear.

This is what I am trying to accomplish.

Thank you so much.

setting the 6 inch on the barrel has nothing to do with the throttle linkage setting.
Remove the throttle cable from the carb
Shift into Fwd detent
Adjust lower shift cable to required settings
Readjust throttle cable barrel at carb

Hi Bt

I was under the impression that if the short cable adjustment were out it could affect the other settings so I wanted start with adjustment of the short cable first.

Thank you

there are 4 positions you can adjust, the barrels of both the throttle and shift cables, and the stud to adjust for reverse, and the throttle connection barrel
