Adding temp gauge to 1996 Johnson 50

I want to add a temp gauge to my 1996 J59TLEDS engine. Is the spot shown in the photo the correct spot for the sender?

Thanks in advance….Greg

My original intent was to add a water temp sensor and gauge to this motor. After much reading, I gave up on that idea. I then decided that a cylinder head temp sensor would be the way to go. The kits from Faria come with a sensor that requires removal of a head bolt which I would do as a last resort if I have to. Before buying a kit, I wanted to see if the spot I am pointing to might be a place to screw in a 1/8” NPT sensor. This “port” is threaded and a fitting will start into it but won’t go far. I assume that is because of paint on the threads. I hate to force a 1/8 NPT fitting in there and possibly mess up the threads without knowing its purpose.

Does this look like a spot for a cylinder head temp sender? The depth of this port or hole is about 13/16”

Your thoughts greatly appreciated

I can definitely do that but does this look like an appropriate location for a cylinder head temp sender?

Thanks again

That would work.-----Water pressure gauge is very useful.----Test overheat horn at least once during the season.
