Adding lower unit oil

" I started to add 80w/90 weig

" I started to add 80w/90 weight oil to the lower unit of my '74 Evinrude. Do I keep adding oil until the oil starts to come out the filler hole? I already poured a 10 oz. tube of it in, but still haven't filled it up. Could anyone tell me approx. how much oil the lower unit on a 25 hp motor might hold. It was drained before I got it so I have no way of measuring how much was already in it. Thanks "

Wow...I was filling it from the top plug hole. I would have never guessed filling it from the bottom. I'm new to this...but filling it from the bottom drain plug seems unusual? Wouldn't the oil drain out before you can get the plug back in?Thanks

"When the oil starts flowing from the top oil level hole, insert and snug up the top oil level screw plug. That creates a air pocket. Now, have the bottom drain plug ready so that when you remove the tube (whatever you're using), you'll be able to insert and start threading the bottom screw in. You'll lose a minor bit of oil but that's normal and figured into the system.
